No pressure. Just a straight answer.

We're independent, and we don't work to a manufacturer's sales target. Plenty of people leave with reassurance rather than a hearing aid. A free test has to be paid for somehow, usually at the end of the appointment. We'd rather charge a fair £55 and give you an honest answer.

Our testing

Testing that goes beyond a basic beep test

A basic test tells you what you hear in silence. We also look at how you cope with real life.

Speech-in-noise testing

Measures how well you follow conversation against background noise.

Why it matters: it's what you actually struggle with in restaurants and groups.

Tympanometry

Checks how your eardrum and middle ear are working.

Why it matters: it can show a problem a hearing test alone would miss.

Video otoscopy

A camera shows the inside of your ears on screen.

Why it matters: you see your own ear health, not just hear about it.

Questions

Hearing test FAQs

How much does a hearing test cost, and what's included?

A full hearing test is £55. That covers a look inside your ears on screen, a hearing test in our sound-proofed room, tympanometry to check your eardrum and middle ear, and your results explained in plain English. There's nothing more to pay unless you choose hearing aids.

Why do you charge when other places offer free tests?

We're independent, so we don't rely on a hearing aid sale to pay for your appointment. A free test has to be paid for somehow, usually at the end of the appointment. We'd rather charge a fair fee for an audiologist's time and give you a straight answer.

What's the difference between the hearing test and the hearing aid assessment?

The hearing test (£55) tells you where your hearing stands. The hearing aid assessment (£95, 90 minutes) adds speech and speech-in-noise testing, a chance to try current hearing aids and a recommendation. Its fee isn't payable if you order hearing aids at the appointment.

How long does it take?

The hearing test takes 30 minutes. The hearing aid assessment takes around 90 minutes, so there's time to talk things through properly and try hearing aids if you'd like to.

Will I be pressured into buying hearing aids?

No. We're independent and don't work to a manufacturer's sales target. Plenty of people leave with reassurance rather than a hearing aid. If hearing aids would help, we'll explain your options clearly and you can take as long as you like to decide.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly with us online or by phone. You don't need a referral or a letter from your GP, and there's no waiting list to join.

What if it's just ear wax?

Wax is a common cause of muffled hearing, and we'll check for it. Ear wax removal is a separate appointment, £70 for both ears. If you think wax is the problem, you can book ear wax removal here or call us to talk it through.

I already have hearing aids from somewhere else. Can you help?

Often, yes. We offer a Hearing Aid MOT for private hearing aids from other suppliers, which costs £139. We can't connect to some high-street own-brand or NHS hearing aids, so please call us first and we'll tell you whether we can help.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, please do. A partner or family member is very welcome at any appointment. It can help to have someone you trust there when we talk through your results and any recommendations.

How much do hearing aids cost?

We're independent and supply all makes, including Starkey and Phonak, so we can recommend what suits your hearing and your budget. All our hearing aids come with a 60-day trial. Call us and we'll talk you through the options.

Can I try hearing aids before deciding?

Yes. All our hearing aids come with a 60-day trial, with follow-up appointments during the trial. At a hearing aid assessment you can also try current hearing aid technology before you decide anything.
